Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.-The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored nine unanswered runs to defeat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 9-3, in front of 2,095 at Security Service Field Monday night.

Oklahoma City scored a pair of second-inning runs on a Bobby Wilson home run, but the Sky Sox took their first lead with three runs in the fourth inning. After a pair of walks, Yadiel Rivera grounded a RBI single to left field, scoring Garrett Cooper to break up the shutout and the no-hitter.

One batter later, Rene Garcia grounded the second straight RBI single to left field to score Ivan De Jesus and tie the score. With one out, Andrew Barbosa bunted into a fielder's choice, catching Rivera in a rundown, but Wilson threw the subsequent throw into left field to plate Garcia for the go-ahead run.

The bottom of the order combined for a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning. With two outs, Rivera drove in Ryan Cordell on his second single of the night that evaded the dive attempt of Alex Verdugo. Garcia then followed with his second straight groundball single to left field, scoring Cooper and extending the lead to three runs.

Colorado Springs (40-28) added a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Cooper launched a 3-1offering from Brandon Morrow to right-centerfield for his 12th home run and 57th RBI of the season to start the frame. After a Brett Phillips triple, De Jesus lined a single off Morrow's glove into center field to extend both the lead and his hitting streak to eight games.

The offense tacked on two more runs in the eighth to complete the 10-hit attack. In his next at-bat after robbing O'Koyea Dickson at the wall with a leaping grab in center field in the top of the eighth, Cordell lined a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Wren. One batter later, Cooper drove in Nate Orf for his second RBI of the game on a double to left-centerfield.

Andrew Barbosa (2-1, 5.85) earned his second win out of the bullpen, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings and allowing a walk as the only base runner. Tim Dillard went 1 2/3 scoreless innings, while David Goforth pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to help the Sox increase their division lead to three games.

The Sox aim for their third series win over the Dodgers in 2017 Tuesday night with a 6:40 p.m. MT first pitch. RHP Taylor Jungmann (3-0, 1.27) takes the mound in search for a win in his fourth straight outing when he faces Oklahoma City RHP Justin Masterson (5-3, 4.09). The series finale is also $2 Tuesday, when tickets, parking and all Coors products are $2.
