Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES - Following an offensive explosion yesterday, the Iowa Cubs (30-41) were silenced at the plate, sinking to the Omaha Storm Chasers (35-33) 5-1, Monday at Principal Park. Only four I-Cubs reached base on three hits and one walk.

Iowa starter Seth Frankoff walked Ruben Sosa to lead off the game and Omaha took advantage as the right fielder came around to score on a Bubba Starling double. The Storm Chasers doubled their edge in the third as Garin Cecchini tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Raul Mondesi. A three-run ninth added insurance for Omaha and the Storm Chasers beat the I-Cubs for the first time this season.

Frankoff (1-4) twirled six innings, allowing a pair of runs on six hits and six walks while fanning four. The quality start was Iowa's third in as many games, marking the first time the I-Cubs have tabbed three consecutive quality outings since August 7-9, 2015 in a home series against Omaha.

Omaha starter Luke Farrell (6-3) lasted eight innings and retired nine on strikes. Chesny Young singled to lead off the second and that was the last base runner Farrell would allow until the bottom of the eighth. With one out in the inning, Chris Dominguez lifted a 1-0 pitch to dead center for his sixth homer of the year. Iowa and Omaha wrap up the series at 12:08 p.m. tomorrow at Principal Park.
