New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox managed 14 hits off of six different New Orleans pitchers to event he series at two games a piece. Chris Gissell (3-0) came in after the delay to pitch five and two thirds innings giving up three runs on five hits, while picking up the win for Colorado Springs.
Rene Reyes picked up his third homer of the year on a ball that barely got over the glove of right fielder Royce Huffman to give Colorado a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.. Colorado scored one in the top of the third to take the lead 2-0. New Orleans scored one in the bottom of the second , when Eric Bruntlett singled to bring home Colin Porter. The Zephyrs scored two in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3, but that was all they could muster. Colorado scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh to take the lead and they never looked back.
Ken Vining (0-2) pitched one third of an inning for the Z's and gave up one run on three hits and picked up the loss. Garrett Atkins went 3 for 4 and drove home 2 for the Sky Sox. Colin Porter was 3 for 4 with one run scored in the losing effort.
The series finale is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. tomorrow with Rosario getting the nod for the Z's and Denny Stark takes to the mound for the Sky Sox.
