
Sanders Shuts Down Beavers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Scott Sanders struck out nine in eight strong innings to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes to a 7-1 win over the Portland Beavers Sunday night.
Sanders allowed a run on six hits and did not issue a walk to improve to 2-2.
Paul Hoover capped a four-run first inning with a two-run home run and the Isotopes added single runs in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 2-1 series advantage over the Beavers (37-34). Albuquerque (33-37) tallied 15 hits in the game.
Matt Erickson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Anthony Iapoce added three hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Tagg Bozied hit his ninth home run of the season in the sixth inning for Portland's only run. Bozied and Alex Pelaez each had two hits.
After two straight solid outings, Dennis Tankersley took the loss after being touched for seven runs on 11 hits and four walks in four innings of work.
The Beavers conclude their series with the Isotopes Monday night before returning home to begin an eight-game homestand Tuesday against the New Orleans Zephyrs.
NOTES: Before the game, the Beavers placed left-hander Mike Bynum on the Disabled List (retroactive to June 14) ... Bynum left Friday night's game prematurely with stiffness in his left shoulder ... right-hander Jose Silva will take Bynum's spot in the rotation, drawing the start Wednesday as the Beavers play host to New Orleans at PGE Park ... the Beavers activated right-hander Brian Tollberg, who was optioned to Portland on Friday ... Tollberg will get the start in Monday's series finale at Albuquerque.
