Sky fall to Phoenix 87-69

CHICAGO- The Sky (8-9) held tough through two quarters, but foul trouble allowed the Mercury to outscore the Sky 23-13 in the third quarter as the Sky fell in Phoenix 87-69 on Saturday night. Allie Quigley led the Sky with 16 points off the bench.

Sylvia Fowles and Epiphanny Prince were forced to the bench with foul trouble early in the game, allowing the Mercury to take a 19-11 lead after the first quarter on the back of eight points from Penny Taylor.

The Mercury extended their lead to 13 points early in the second quarter before the Sky's Epiphanny Prince rattled off nine second-quarter points (3-for-3 from behind the arch) to spur a 10-2 Sky run. Chicago tied its highest point total in a second quarter this season with 27 points as they closed the gap to 44-38 heading into the half.

The Sky struggled to find offensive rhythm in the third, scoring just 13 points in the quarter. Rookie guard Jamierra Faulkner delivered five points in the quarter but the Mercury capitalized on the Sky's scoring drought to mount a 67-51 lead heading into the fourth.

Faulkner and Prince finished with 11 points apiece as the Sky fell 87-69 in Phoenix. Candice Dupree led the Mercury with 26 points while Diana Taurasi added 15 points and 5 assists.

The Sky looks to get back to .500 on the season when they complete their three-game West Coast road trip on Saturday night against the Seattle Storm. Tipoff is set for 9pm CT and the game will broadcast live on NBA TV and WNBA LiveAccess.
