Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Sugar Land Skeeters defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 10-6 on Wednesday afternoon thanks to a barrage of home runs. The Skeeters moved to 16-11 in the second half, giving them a one and a half game lead on York Revolution for the top spot in the Freedom Division.

Roy Merritt ran into some early trouble but managed to pick up his 6th win of the season, giving up five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. Mike Antonini struggled mightily in his outing, only getting through 1 2/3 innings after giving up seven runs on six hits with a strikeout and four walks.

Ricky Hague put the Skeeters up 1-0 in the 1st on a ground-rule double that scored Jeff Dominguez. Dominguez broke out of his 0-17 slump on Wednesday afternoon and launched a grand-slam in the 2nd that would give the Skeeters a 5-0 lead. Ricky Hague belted a two-run homer later in the inning that would extend Sugar Land's lead to 7-0. With Hague's home run, he has now set his single-season high for RBI.

Bridgeport would respond quickly in the bottom of the 2nd when Jose Gil scored Jose Cuevas on a fielder's choice. Angelys Nina's single drove home Sean Burroughs to make it a 7-2 game. The Bluefish continued to make it tough on Roy Merritt in the bottom of the 3rd as a pair of RBI doubles from Welington Dotel and Sean Burroughs brought it within 7-4. Jonathan Galvez' groundout drove home Jose Cuevas to make it 7-5.

RBI singles from Rene Tosoni and Delwyn Young in the top of the 5th made the lead 10-5. Bridgeport added a run in the 6th, but the lead would be too steep for the Bluefish to overcome.
