
Skeeters Snap Losing Streak with 18-11 Victory over Blue Crabs

WALDORF, MD - The Sugar Land Skeeters snapped their four game losing streak with an 18-11 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Friday night. The Skeeters are 33-28 in the second half and a half game back of York Revolution for 1st place in the Freedom Division. The Skeeters set a season high record with 22 hits on Friday night and came two runs short of the franchise run record.
The Blue Crabs took an early 1-0 lead with Angel Sanchez' sac-fly RBI in the 1st. The Skeeters exploded for six runs in the 2nd inning starting with Jeremy Barfield's two-run blast that made it 2-1. Barfield's homer was his 22nd of the season which sets a new Skeeters single-season record. An RBI double from Delwyn Young and an RBI single from Wilfredo Rodriguez gave the Skeeters a 4-1 lead. Jeff Dominguez' two-run homer extended the lead to 6-1.
Sugar Land's four-run 4th inning gave the club a 10-4 lead thanks to Jeff Dominguez' three-run homer and a solo shot from Patrick Palmeiro. The Skeeters took a 12-8 lead into the 7th until the Blue Crabs came charging back, cutting the deficit to 12-11 after knocking Robbie Weinhardt for three runs.
Jeff Dominguez put some more distance between the Skeeters and Blue Crabs with a sac-fly RBI in the 8th that made it 13-11. Dominguez finished the night 2-4 with 6 RBI. Palmeiro gave the Skeeters another insurance run later in the inning with an RBI single that made it 14-11. The Skeeters added four more runs in the top of the 9th to make it an 18-11 ballgame. Dan Runzler sealed the victory with a shut down inning in the 9th.
