
Skeeters Sign Giron, Lambin for 2013

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Roberto Giron and infielder/outfielder Chase Lambin. The Skeeters also announced the club's coaching staff, including new Pitching Coach Jeff Scott. Both announcements were made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti and Director of Operations Michael Kirk.
Giron made 34 appearances with Sugar Land in 2012, going 1-3 with a 2.17 ERA (9ER/37.1IP) and 49 strikeouts. Last season, Giron also pitched for Oaxaca and Laguna of the Mexican League, combining for a 6-3 record with a 6.02 ERA (27ER/40.1IP) in 38 appearances (one start). Over 18 career minor league seasons, the Dominican native owns a 69-67 record with a 3.94 ERA (508ER/1160.2IP) and 92 saves in 631 games (64 starts).
Lambin, originally a 34th round pick of the New York Mets in the June 2002 Draft, played 89 games with Miami's Triple A New Orleans last year. He hit .253 (63x249) with eight home runs and 32 RBI on the season. A native of Houston, Texas, Lambin owns a career .269 (1036x3854) average with 223 doubles, 116 homers and 515 RBI in 1169 minor league games.
Skeeters Name Jeff Scott as Pitching Coach
The Skeeters also announced today that the club has hired former Atlantic League manager and Major League scouting director Jeff Scott as pitching coach for the 2013 season.
Scott spent the 2012 season managing the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. Prior to his stint as manager, he also served as Camden's director of baseball operations and pitching coach from 2009-11. Over the course of his career in the Major Leagues, Scott served as scouting director for the Cleveland Indians (1987-88), Detroit Tigers (1994-96) and the St. Louis Cardinals (1999-2001). In 1983, he was also named the director of scouting and player development for the Seattle Mariners.
As a player, Scott spent six seasons pitching in the Texas Rangers farm system (1972-76, '79). Originally selected in the third round of the June 1972 Draft by the Rangers, Scott owns a 36-37 career minor league record with a 3.55 ERA (228ER/578IP) in 93 games (82 starts).
Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti returns for his second season at the helm of the Sugar Land ball club. Last season, Gaetti led the team to a 64-76 finish and made a profound impact during the club's inaugural season in the Atlantic League. Hitting Coach Vic Gutierrez will also return to his post with the Skeeters in 2013.
Opening Day for the Sugar Land Skeeters is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at Constellation Field against the 2012 Atlantic League Champion Long Island Ducks.
