
Skeeters Re-Sign RHP Lucas Irvine

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Skeeters today announced the signing of right-hander Lucas Irvine.
Irvine, 30, made his Skeeters debut in 2018, going 1-1 with a 3.41 ERA through six starts. He also made two starts in the 2018 postseason, going 1- 0 with a 2.89 ERA en route to the Skeeters' 2018 Atlantic League Championship.
Irvine is set to appear in his fifth season in the Atlantic League. He made his first Atlantic League appearance in 2013 with the Camden Riversharks and appeared in two seasons with the Somerset Patriots (2015, '17), as well as his 2018 stint with the Skeeters. He's also appeared at the independent level with the Kansas City T-Bones of the American Association (2012-13, '18).
The Kansas City, Mo., native is 47-38 with a 3.79 ERA and two saves through 195 games (153 starts) in seven seasons at the professional level.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted Irvine in the 27th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He was also selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 43rd round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Northwestern State.
Irvine played at the affiliated level with the Rays (2011) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (2015-16), peaking at Triple-A. He last appeared at the affiliated level in 2016 with Double-A Mobile and is 7-6 with a 4.11 ERA in 32 games (11 starts) in his affiliated career.
Irvine was selected to the 2015 Atlantic League All-Star Game while with Somerset and finished the season with 106 strikeouts, which were the eighth-most in the league. While a junior at Northwestern State, Irvine was selected to the All-Southland Conference First Team, going 7-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 16 starts that season.
The Skeeters open the 2019 season on April 25 at Constellation Field against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
