Matt Wright (5.0,5,5,5,3,8) made his 14th start of the season tonight on the road at Southern Maryland. The righty received the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and allowed five runs on five hits and recorded eight strikeouts.

With two outs in the top of the first inning, center fielder Brian Barton (4x5, R, RBI), catcher Travis Scott (2x4, R, RBI) and first baseman Delwyn Young (1x4, RBI) all collected singles, which lead to Barton coming in for the first Skeeter run of the game. The following batter, designated hitter Nick Stavinoha (2x5, 2 RBI), bounced a ground-rule double over the fence that brought in Scott for run number two of the inning.

Leading off the top of the seventh was left fielder Ryan Langerhans (1x3, 2 R) who reached base with a walk. Shortstop Taylor Harbin (2x5, R) then followed up with a single to left field that advanced Langerhans to second. A single to left field by Barton filled up the bags as Scott came to the plate. Scott was then walked which pushed Langerhans home for the first run of the inning. A fielder's choice hit by Stavinoha allowed Harbin to score to bring the Skeeters within one run going into the bottom of the seventh.

Lefty Cory VanAllen (1.1,1,1,1,0,1) came in to the game in the top of the sixth and tossed 1.1 innings and allowed just one run on one hit and a strikeout. Jared Wells (0.1,2,2,2,2,0) entered in the seventh with one out to relieve VanAllen, and gave up two runs on two hits with two walks. Also pitching in the seventh was Brian Broderick (1.1,0,0,0,0,2) who was able to collect the final out of the inning without allowing a run or a hit and finished the game without allowing a run or hit and recorded two personal retirements.
