San Angelo Colts News Release
Amarillo, Texas---A six-run seventh inning led to the downfall of the Colts (45-26) in the Panhandle of Texas; San Angelo suffered an 11-7 defeat to the Amarillo Dillas (39-31). Brian Henschel had his shortest outing of the season as the right-handed starter delivered 5.2 innings. Albert Ayala (2-0) was credited with the victory while Chace Vacek (3-2) was allocated the loss.
The home team ignited the high scoring matchup in the second. Trent Lockwood deposited a solo shot to deep right-center. It was the 13th homer of the season giving Amarillo a 1-0 lead.
San Angelo fired back in the top of the third. Nick Mahin started the rally with a triple. After Butch Ballez grounded out to the mound and Travis Calloway walked, Ronnie Gaines scorched an RBI single to left. With runners on first and second, Rich Paz scalded a run-scoring double to right-center; Gaines occupied third and Paz was situated at second when Selwyn Langaigne drove a sacrifice fly to center. The Colts held a 3-1 advantage.
Amarillo struck again in the bottom of the third. Carlos Figueroa stepped up with one out and laced a double to right-center. Terrance McClain drove in Figueroa with a single to cut the deficit to one.
San Angelo plated another in the fourth. A fielder's choice groundball with the bags full of Colts, drove home San Angelo's fourth run of the game. The RBI was credited to Travis Calloway and the Colts led 4-2.
The Dillas offense responded in the bottom half of the fourth. Second baseman Willie James drove in Angel Reyes after lifting a double to left-center. San Angelo's lead was subtracted yet again to just a run.
In the fifth, Ronnie Gaines was rewarded home plate off three Dillas miscues. A two-base error allowed Gaines to reach second base. A balk and a wild pitch moved Ronnie all the way home helping San Angelo recover their two-run lead.
Calloway delivered his second RBI of the contest in the top of the sixth. A double to left-center by the Colts back-stop scored Mahin from third base. The contest became a three-run advantage for San Angelo.
The trend, though, continued as the Dillas responded immediately. A two RBI single from Stantrel Smith with two outs in the bottom half of the sixth inning returned the Colts lead to just a run.
Jason Landreth followed, however, with a blast. The designated hitter dealt his ULB leading 17th homer of the season to left-center. The solo shot, in the seventh, extended the cushion to two runs.
The seesaw battle progressed to Amarillo's side in the bottom of the frame. McClain doubled and, with one out, Andrew Wong lined an RBI single up the middle. Reyes tripled to bring home Wong, tying the affair at seven. Justin Wenger poked a base hit to center, giving Amarillo it's first edge of the game. Keanon Simon scorched a two-run triple to right before Smith drilled a single to right. Amarillo held an 11-7 advantage and would shut down the San Angelo hitters the rest of the way.
