Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Six members of the Waterloo Black Hawks have been chosen to play on the U.S. Junior Select Team which will participate during next month's World Junior A Challenge, USA Hockey announced Thursday.

Goaltender Eamon McAdam, defenseman Ian McCoshen, and forwards Vince Hinostroza, Taylor Cammarata, Zach Stepan, and Justin Kloos were named to the team. Waterloo has more representatives on the squad than any other United States Hockey League club. McCoshen and Hinostroza each participated in the event last fall, helping the United States to a bronze medal. The U.S. Junior Select Team, composed mostly of USHL Players, has won a medal during each of five previous appearances in the event.

"A player can learn from an event like this, skating with top players from other teams and being coached by someone with a different voice," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley, who has led several different U.S. Junior Select teams. "This is also a heavily scouted event and an opportunity for our guys to impress some influential people."

In addition to Waterloo's six player representatives, team trainer Todd Klein will also be part of the traveling party. Klein served on the U.S. staff during the event last fall. This will be the sixth time he has assisted the U.S. Junior Select Team staff during either the World Junior A Challenge or Viking Cup tournament.

This season, the World Junior A Challenge will be played in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The tournament begins on November 5. Two teams from Canada, along with Czech Republic, Russia, and Switzerland will participate. Each team will advance to the elimination stage, with the top two performers during pool play receiving a quarterfinal round bye. The championship game is slated for Sunday, November 11th.
