Brooklyn FC News Release

Davie, Florida - Brooklyn Football Club (Brooklyn FC) women battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw on the road against Fort Lauderdale United in a high-intensity contest that featured six goals and a late equalizer. After falling behind in the 30th minute, Brooklyn answered before halftime as forward Catherine Zimmerman headed home from close range off midfielder Samantha Kroeger's corner kick to level the match at 1-1. Early in the second half, midfielder Mylena Freitas fired Brooklyn in front with a composed finish from the right side of the box, assisted by Zimmerman.

Fort Lauderdale equalized midway through the second half, but Brooklyn regained the lead in the 81st minute when center back Jordan Thompson powered in a header following another Kroeger corner. Reduced to 10 players after forward Rebecca Cooke received two yellow cards in the 75th minute, Brooklyn defended under late pressure. The hosts found a stoppage-time equalizer in the 90th minute, and after 10 minutes of added time, the match ended level.

Tengarrinha's View

On the halftime message and the substitution that led to Freitas' 46th-minute goal: "We went into halftime level, and we felt we were on top of the game. The idea behind bringing Mylena on was simply to add freshness down the flank. The message to the group was to keep doing what we had been doing, stay focused, and trust the work we'd put in up to that point."

On the team's effectiveness from set pieces and wide areas, and the tactical emphasis behind that approach: "We try to create danger in many different ways. We look at what the game gives us and make decisions from that. More than the way we attacked, it was about the way we played. This team has a real soul, with a lot of determination and willpower, and that never runs out. That, more than anything, is what makes me most proud."

Match Reactions

#34 Catherine Zimmerman (Forward):

On riding the team's momentum and helping turn the game around: "I felt like the team had some really good moments and dominated at different points throughout the game, so I was just trying to ride that momentum and stay focused and have that belief that we'd get a result."

On her 97th-minute chance: "It was a good pass from Mylena, I'd have to look back and see if I could have taken a touch, but in the moment I felt like there was an opening to hit it first time. I thought it could have been it, but unfortunately it wasn'.t"

#25 Nicolette Pasquarella (Goalkeeper):

On making her Brooklyn debut: "It was such a great and rewarding experience to be able to step on the field with such an amazing group of women. I felt super confident and prepared, and that's all credit to my extremely supportive teammates and staff."

On staying composed and her key saves: "For me, I think the most important factor throughout the game was keeping my composure and helping lead my team in organization. An important play from the game was off the corner kick in the first half when the ball was played into pressure, and I had to get my top hand across to punch the ball and clear it."
