Six BlueSox Voted to All Star Game

July 6, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Butler BlueSox News Release

Butler, PA - July 5, 2012 - The Butler BlueSox had six players voted to the 2012 Prospect League All Star Game. Two of the players, catcher Matt Albaugh and pitcher Jared Locke, will be in the Eastern Division's starting lineup as the battery to open the game.

Locke is 3-1 this summer with a 2.41 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched. His 45 strikeouts ranks second in the League, although he has led the category for most of the summer.

Albaugh has been solid behind the plate for Butler this summer, as well as offensively. He is hitting .328 with 11 extra base hits, including three home runs.

Albaugh's 27 runs scored rank second on the team behind Elliott Caldwell. Caldwell made the team as one of Butler's four reserves, along with second baseman Jason Radwan, starting pitcher Kyle Thomas, and closer Adam Dian.

Having split time between shortstop and the outfield, Caldwell is leading the League with a .415 batting average and 61 hits. His 27 RBIs leads the team despite having hit first or second in the batting order for most of the season.

Caldwell, who was named the Prospect League Hitter of the Week last week, also is tied for third in the League with 14 stolen bases.

Radwan, who is in his second year with Butler, is the first two-time BlueSox All Star. He has hit .310 for the BlueSox this summer with six doubles, a home run, and 21 RBIs. He leads the team with 23 walks and is second behind Caldwell with a .426 on-base percentage.

Closer Adam Dian broke the BlueSox single-season record for saves before the All Star break this summer.

Dian is first in the League in strikeouts for relief pitchers, having struck out 37 hitters in 16 appearances.

His ten saves lead the League in the category in addition to setting a new single-season franchise record for the BlueSox.

Kyle Thomas is second on the staff and first among Butler starters with a 3.08 ERA in six outings. He has struck out 45 hitters and walks just 13 over 30 innings of work.

Butler's six representatives is a new high for the franchise, surpassing the previous standard of five that was set last season. With ten representatives Chillicothe is the only team in the Eastern Division to send more players to the All Star Game than the BlueSox.

Players were selected through votes by the League's managers. Having won the first half of the season in their respective divisions, Tim Epling of West Virginia and Ryan Anderson of Dubois County will coach the All Star Teams. The All Star Game will take place at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois on July 11.
