
Bombers Drop Second Straight to Sliders, Lose 16-12

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Springfield Sliders scored seven in the first inning and then pulled ahead in the middle innings in a 16-12 win over the Dubois County Bombers at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Ill.
Jake Bergen had two home runs and six runs-batted-in for Springfield, and his teammate Jake Ingold added a homer and four RBI.
David Frank earned the win for Springfield, holding Dubois County scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings after coming on in relief of starter Jeremy Holcombe, who allowed eight runs - six earned - in four innings.
Justin Hunsaker relieved Frank and pitched two scoreless innings before being spelled by Joh White; White allowed four runs in the ninth, but only one was earned.
Nelson Marchan, in his first action for the Bombers, took the loss as he retired the final Slider in the fourth inning. He relieved starter Kurt Kudrecki, who allowed eleven runs in three and two-thirds innings.
Nick Smart took over for Marchan for the next two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, one of which was unearned, on five hits and three walks while striking out three. Taylor Luna threw a scoreless final four outs for the Bombers.
After falling behind 7-0 in the first, Dubois County actually held an 8-7 lead through three and a half innings, but the Sliders scored four in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. The Bombers scored four runs in the ninth to make the 16-8 score a more respectable 16-12.
The Bombers host Quincy for three games starting Saturday, July 7, at 7:15 p.m. at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.
