Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO - November 24, 2014 - Orlando City Soccer Club today provided an update on the progress made thus far on the downtown soccer stadium and community efforts related to its construction.
"Since our groundbreaking in October, crews have begun the monumental task of transforming the site into a world class multi-use stadium that will stimulate the community through job creation and long-term economic benefits," said Orlando City Founder and President Phil Rawlins. "Also, we have continued the process of collecting community input and feedback to ensure the community of Parramore is a close partner of ours. This stadium will not only appropriately represent the community, but it will inspire it for the future. We are excited for the months ahead as we approach the spring of 2016."
Since groundbreaking on October 16, site work has taken place along Church Street and Parramore Avenue including draining of the retention pond and rerouting of pipes.
In addition, as part of the ongoing community outreach process, on November 10, City of Orlando and District 5 Commissioner Regina Hill hosted the first meeting of the Parramore Stadium Design Advisory Task Force. The committee met to discuss initial goals and will reconvene quarterly to ensure the heritage and culture of Parramore are incorporated into the new stadium design.
Lastly, on November 12, the City of Orlando held two important community meetings. First was a Stadium Construction Project Community Update Meeting in Parramore, which created a forum for residents to provide feedback and voice their concerns. The next series of meetings will take place in the first quarter of 2015. The second meeting was held by officials from the City of Orlando's Blueprint Initiative, which ensures that the local community benefits from the stadium construction with 24 percent of the contracts going to minority or women-owned business enterprises.
