February 18, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release
The Musketeers traveled to Lincoln for the final two matchups with the Stars this season. The Musketeers were short handed being down on the bench as an injured Musketeers team gave up 3 great fights this weekend. A.J. Hodges was able to get the Musketeers up 1-0, but Lincoln was able to put the Musketeers away after scoring 5 straight unanswered goals with 1 goal late in the first, 3 goals in the 2nd period, and 1 dagger goal in the third. Lincoln was able to get more shots on Musketeers goalie Akira Schmid, shooting 29 shots compared to the Musketeers 16.
Night two in Lincoln would be a closer contest, but with the same result, Lincoln was able to get on the board first and make it 1-0 after 1 period of play, Lincoln would score again before the Musketeers would get their first goal on the board with 6:14 left in the 2nd period to make it 2-1 Stars after two. The Musketeers would pull goalie Ethan Haider late in the 3rd to try and even things up, but couldn't get a goal past the Stars defense as the Stars would score the empty net goal to cap off a 3-1 loss for the Musketeers. Lincoln would outshoot the Musketeers 20-32 in the game.
Sunday the Musketeers would return home to the Tyson Events Center to take on the Fargo Force. The game would start with a Fargo goal with 8:01 left in the 1st period. The Musketeers would respond with a goal by Joel Maatta for Maatta's 10th goal of the season with 4:25 left in the 1st period. That would do it for the scoring for the 1st and 2nd period of play as the Musketeers were able to put 12 shots on net and Fargo with 8 shots of their own in the 2nd. The Musketeers would take a 2-1 lead with a goal by Sam Antenucci, but with a lot of time left in the game Fargo would score two back to back goals to make it a quick 3-2 lead for the Force. Fargo would never look back and score two more goals to secure the 5-2 victory for the Force.
The Musketeers are on the road this weekend in Fargo, North Dakota to take on the Fargo Force at Scheels arena for the last two matchups of the season against the Force on Friday, February 21st at 7:05 P.M. and Saturday, February 22nd at 7:05 P.M.
