Homestand Preview
February 18, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
If there has been a time the Muskegon Lumberjacks needed a shot in the arm, this Friday and Saturday's homestand with the visiting Dubuque Fighting Saints, is that time.
The Jacks are coming back home from a road trip that didn't go the way the team wanted, taking three losses on the chin. But Muskegon does have a few good things going its way leading up to this weekend's contests.
Danil Gushchin has been a key leader keeping Muskegon afloat this season. The Russian born forward is averaging 1.14 points a game and is coming off another three-point performance in last Saturday's 5-4 loss at Youngstown.
Gushchin tallied two goals and an assist against Youngstown on Feb. 15, which was his sixth game this season with three points or more. His consistency has put him at the No. 10 spot for most goals in the USHL with 20. He currently has 21 assists, good enough for the No. 15 spot for most points in the USHL with 41 total.
Grand Haven native and Lumberjacks forward Dylan Wendt has been a bright spot for Muskegon the past few weeks. Wendt is currently on a four-game point streak and has points in seven of his last 10 games.
Also bringing consistency has been the mid-season pickup of forward Cameron Berg. The University of Nebraska-Omaha commit has put up points in six of his last 10 games and is currently No. 18 on the USHL's scoring leaderboard, with 17 goals.
The Jacks face a hot Dubuque team which has won eight of its last 10 games and is currently in second place with 39 points, 10 points behind Eastern Conference leader Chicago which has 49 points.
Muskegon (18-21-4) needs this weekend's key Eastern Conference points in a race that has the Lumberjacks one point ahead of Cedar Rapids for sixth place and the final playoff spot.
The Lumberjacks will have their hands full with Dubuque as they've dropped each of their three games against the Fighting Saints this season, but each matchup was on the road.
The good news for the Jacks is they've played their most consistent hockey at home this season with a 9-8-2 record.
