Tri-City Storm News Release

Kearney, NE. - For the third time in his USHL career, and the third time this season, Tri-City Storm Defenseman Mitchell Miller has been named the USHL's Defenseman of the Week. Miller led Tri-City with five points (one goal, four assists) in last weekend's road sweep of the Madison Capitols. He scored the game winning goal in Sunday's 5-0 win and finished the weekend with a plus/minus rating of +5. Miller is currently 2nd in USHL Defensive scoring with 30 points on the 2019-2020 season. Today's announcement marks the fourth time this season that the Tri-City Storm has had an active player win a USHL Player of the Week award.

Mitchell Miller, 18, of Sylvania, Ohio has appeared in thirty-eight games this season with the Storm after being acquired by the team in a trade with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on May 31st, 2019. Miller is ranked as the 48th best North American skater in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's most recent prospect rankings for the 2020 NHL Draft. At last year's NHL Draft, the Tri-City Storm had five players selected by NHL member clubs, including three defenseman. Tri-City has had a total of forty-two players selected at the NHL Draft, and twenty-one players who have gone on to play in the NHL. Miller was named USHL Defenseman of the Week in back to back weeks earlier this season (Week 17 & Week 18). He is the only player in the USHL this season who has won this weekly award three times. Miller has represented the Tri-City Storm this season at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and at the 2020 BioSteel All-American Game in Plymouth, Michigan. Miller previously announced a commitment to play college hockey at the University of North Dakota.

"The recognition is definitely a good feeling for me moving forward. This past weekend against Madison we were really moving the puck around, and we all played well as a group. Our team is so close right now, we're having fun, and playing well." - Defenseman Mitchell Miller

"It's nice to see him get recognized by the league for his accomplishments last weekend against Madison. Mitchell's performance in those two games was reflective of his consistency and his daily approach. Offensively is the area of his game that has shown the most improvement over the course of the season. The game is slowing down for him, he's more confident with the puck on his stick, and at the same time he hasn't lost any of his defensive abilities. Our team depth is really good at that position, and our defensive core has continued to make strides this season. Mitchell is a leader on the back end, his consistency, work ethic, and leadership that he brings on a daily basis has significantly strengthened our defensive core as a whole". - Associate Coach Ethan Goldberg
