Sioux City Bandits News Release
(December 6, 2006-Sioux City, IA) The Sioux City Bandits of United Indoor Football are pleased to announce our new Head Coach and Coaching Staff for the 2007 Season. Sioux City has been without a Head Coach since the end of the 2006 season when former coach Jose Jefferson resigned to accept a marketing position with an insurance company in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Sioux City has hired Richard Britt to be Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator. Britt is a native of Washington D.C. and currently lives in the Dallas Texas area. Britt has five years experience in indoor football. In 2005-2004 he was the Defensive Coordinator/Asst Head Coach with the Bossier City/Shreveport Battle Wings in the Arena 2 League. In 2004 he was the Defensive Coordinator for the Tulsa Talons of AF2, his defense ranked number one in rushing defense and eighth in total defense. During the 2003 season he was Defensive Coordinator for the Bakersfield Blitz in AF2, his defense ranked number 3 in total defense in AF2. In 2002-2001 he was VP of Football Operations for Roanoke Pro Football in Roanoke Virginia. Bandits GM/Managing Partner Bob Scott had this to say, "Richard has a lot of experience in indoor football, which was a major factor in our decision to hire him. We had a lot of interest in the job but really felt we needed a coach with a track record to get the Bandits back to where we were in 2005. He complements our coaching staff and will do the job that management and our fans want to see year in and out from the Bandits."
The rest of the Bandits Coaching Staff is as follows.
Tom Luxford will be back for his third season with the Bandits. Luxford has been the Defensive Coordinator in past seasons. His defense was among the UIF leaders in both 2005 & 2006. Tom will move to the other side in 2007 and be the Bandits Offensive Coordinator. Luxford is a former Head Coach at Laurel Concord High School in Laurel NE where he had a 23-2 record in 1994-95 and an overall record of 79-59.
Roger Jansen will be back for a fifth season with the Bandits. Jansen will coach the Offensive and Defensive Lines. Roger is the Head Coach at Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School that he has built into an Iowa High School perennial playoff team.
Pat Arens will be in charge of the Defensive Backs. Arens will be starting his second season as an Assistant Coach with the Bandits. Arens is a native of Laurel NE, where he played high school football for Tom Luxford and went on to play college football at Wayne State.
The Bandits 2007 Schedule we had hoped to release to you today. But are unable to because the League is still finalizing some dates for other teams. We will release the schedule as soon as it is official.
In 2007 the UIF will consist of 11 teams and two conferences. The Western Conference will include; Sioux City, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Fort Collins and Billings. The Eastern Conference will include; St. Louis, Bloomington IL, Rockford, Evansville, Lexington and Ohio Valley.
The Bandits today are introducing their new team mascot; his name is "Slinger". Four Seasons Owner Jim Baldwin, "We have had a great relationship with the Bandits and are glad to be working with the team again in 2007. The Bandits players are very professional and courteous to our staff and our members, we enjoy having them use our club and interact with our members." Four Seasons now has four locations in the metro area; Midtown, Morningside, Hamilton Blvd and North Sioux City.
This season will mark the seventh year in a row that the Bandits will have their home and away games broadcast on ClearChannel Radio Station Fox Sports 620 KMNS. Curtis Anderson will again call the games as he has done since the team's inception in 2001. Bandits Operations Director Mark Carley, "We have a good history with Curtis and ClearChannel, they do a great job of promoting our games on all 5 of the stations.
