Sing the National Anthem on Opening Night

March 9, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH- While American Idol continues to be a top-rated television show, the Dayton Dragons are looking for singers of their own. The seventh annual Dayton Dragons and Dayton Daily News National Anthem Tryouts are set to take place this weekend at the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons. The auditions will be Saturday, March 11th at the Dayton Mall from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday March 12th at the Mall at Fairfield Commons from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The winners will be asked to perform the National Anthem at a Dayton Dragons game during the 2006 season. One selected individual or group will be asked to perform the National Anthem on Opening Day 2006 as the Dragons host the South Bend Silver Hawks at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, April 6th at 7 p.m.

"The national anthem tryouts have been a great event every season leading up to Opening Day," said Dragons President Robert Murphy. "There are many wonderful singers in the Miami Valley, and we're thrilled that so many showcase their talents for the Dragons and the chance to perform on Opening Night."

Due to overwhelming turnouts in previous years, the competition will be limited to those contestants who have pre-registered. However, those that have not registered still have a chance to participate. On both Saturday and Sunday there will be a standby line available on a first-come, first-serve basis for anyone who does not have a spot. If the tryouts run ahead of schedule or a performer fails to show, those in the standby line will fill the openings. Standby contestants are encouraged to arrive early.

Judging the event this year will be a panel of local citizens including city officials, choir directors, and talent agency personnel. The panel will make its selections based on voice quality, creative style, stage presence and appearance.
