Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays announce today the addition of Brady Williams to the 2006 coaching staff. Williams takes over as the Rays' hitting coach, a spot vacated when Skeeter Barnes was promoted to club manager. Williams, 26, joins Tampa Bay for his first coaching stint. A Salt Lake City native and Palm Harbor, Florida resident, Williams enters the coaching ranks after an eight-year playing career.

Last season, Williams, a corner infielder, batted a career-best .259 with 10 home runs and a career-high 58 runs batted in over 115 games for the Bridgeport Bluefish (Atlantic). In 2004, Williams played for the traveling Pennsylvania Road Warriors (Atlantic), hitting a career-best 15 home runs.

Williams was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 45th round of the 1999 draft out of Pasco Hernandez (FL) Community College. He began his pro career with Boston's Gulf Coast League club, moving on to Augusta in the South Atlantic League in 2000 and Sarasota (Florida State) in 2001. Williams was traded from Boston to Minnesota and spent most of the 2002 campaign with Fort Myers. Williams advanced to Double A New Britain (Eastern) for eight games. He was signed by Tampa Bay prior to the 2003 season and spent five games with Bakersfield (California) before being released. Williams concluded the summer of 2003 with Berkshire (Northeast).

Williams is the son of Devil Rays Special Instructor and former Boston Red Sox manager Jimy Williams.
