Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that WR Jamarko Simmons has been placed on the Other League Exempt list after signing with the New York Jets.

The 25-year-old Simmons played in nine games for the Sharks in 2011, catching 27 passes for 295 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also proved vital in short-yardage situations, carrying the ball 12 times for 11 yards and seven scores. The versatile Simmons also contributed 9.5 total tackles and forced a fumble last season.

Simmons stepped his game up during the 2011 playoffs, notching four rushing touchdowns along with four touchdowns through the air. Simmons' eight scores in postseason play tied him with Jeron Harvey for the team lead.

"Jamarko worked very hard throughout the AFL season and the fruits of his labor are paying off," Sharks head coach Les Moss said.

The Jets will be the third team in as many leagues for which Simmons has played in 2011. In July, he signed with the United Football League's Virginia Destroyers before rejoining the Sharks for the postseason.

Notably, the Destroyers won the UFL Championship this season, giving Simmons a chance to accomplish an incredibly rare feat.

"We wish him the best of luck with the New York Jets," Moss added. "And we hope that he earns a third championship ring in 2011."

A native of Flint, MI, Simmons spent his college career at Western Michigan.
