Simmons, Chaykowksy, & Jamieson Reach Milestones in Loss: By the Numbers Presented by StoredTech

April 16, 2024 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Albany FireWolves News Release

The Albany FireWolves have clinched a spot in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Playoffs, and despite some recent losses have been the best comeback story of the 2023-24 season. This is a historic team in the franchise's history with players having career best years and reaching milestones as the postseason approaches. Let's look at the key numbers from the FireWolves matchup with the Panther City Lacrosse Club this past weekend.

6th All-Time In Rookie Points Reached By Alex Simmons

Alex Simmons started the 2023-24 season at an incredible scoring pace and has continued his impressive production at a rate of 4 PPG in his first pro season. Simmons scored 1 goal and added 1 assist against Panther City to bring his total to 87 points. This moves him into 6th all-time in points amongst rookies in NLL history. He passed Ben McIntosh, currently playing for Philadelphia, who scored 86 points for the Edmonton Rush in 2015. With one regular season game remaining for Albany, Simmons can still move up higher on the list if he has a big game. See below for the players he could pass this weekend:

400 Career Loose Balls By Nick Chaykowsky

Whether it is on the back end, on faceoffs, or in the tough areas all over the floor, Nick Chaykowsky is always scooping up important loose balls every game. Against Panther City, he picked up his 400th career loose ball and would finish the game with 406. Chaykowsky is the FireWolves best defender and one of their best on loose balls with his slick stick work and awareness. Gaining the edge in loose balls is going to be so crucial as the FireWolves head into the playoffs with those extra possessions giving them more chances to score. If Chaykowsky can continue to be a vacuum on loose balls Albany will have a great chance to make a playoff run.

3000 Career Saves For Doug Jamieson

At age 27, Doug Jamieson is already in his seventh NLL season and is a veteran goalie in the league. Jamieson has been playing exceptionally well this season and this past weekend he made his 3000th career save against Panther City. Every one of those 3,000 saves was made through countless hours of honing his craft as Jamieson has proven himself to be one of the best goalies in the world. He was named NLL Goalie of the Year in 2020 and has been putting up the numbers during the 2023-24 season to make a case for that title again. His current 80% save percentage and 10.13 goals against average are in the top 3 for goalies in the NLL. If Jamieson can get hot heading into the playoffs, the FireWolves will have a great chance at a run to the NLL Cup.

Next up for the FireWolves is a chance to secure a home playoff game with a win against the New York Riptide this Saturday, April 20 at the Nassau Coliseum. The FireWolves would start the playoffs with a home game at MVP Arena on Sunday, April 28 at 3 pm with a win this weekend.
