Silvertips Recall RW Cal Babych from Coquitlam Express

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), proud member of the Western Hockey League, and general manager Garry Davidson announced today that the club has recalled right winger Cal Babych from the Coquitlam Express (BCHL).

Babych, who turned 20 on Jan. 18 and was originally listed by the Silvertips this season, makes Everett his fifth WHL team and has previously suited up in 152 career games with Calgary, Prince George, Prince Albert and Vancouver, amassing 35 points and 55 penalty minutes along with a +9 rating. He has nine career playoff appearances, split between the Cougars and Raiders.

Currently this season, the 5-foot-10, 179 pound forward ranks second on the Express in points (28), is tied for the club lead in assists (21) and has seven goals in 33 games. Babych suited up in a WHL career high 56 games last season with Prince Albert, collecting five goals and 14 points along with a +10 rating.

He will wear jersey #77.

Cal's father, Dave, skated for 19 seasons in the National Hockey League as a defenseman with the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Hartford Whalers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Los Angeles Kings, earning 723 points and 970 penalty minutes in 1,195 career games. He additionally suited up in 114 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, helping lead the Canucks to the Western Conference title in 1994

Selected second overall by Winnipeg in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, Dave played in 117 career WHL games with the Portland Winterhawks and earned 161 points.
