Silvertips Knock Off Americans, 6-1

Kennewick, WA - The Everett Silvertips took down the first place U.S. Division Tri-City Americans Saturday night, 6-1. Led by two goal night's from D. Jay McGrath and Shane Harper, the Silvertips picked up their first regular season victory at Tri-City since March 5th, 2008. McGrath's goals were the first of his WHL career. Harper also played in his 288th career WHL game moving him ahead of Taylor Ellington for the lead of all time games played in the Silvertips franchise. Harper has 10 points in his last four games (7G, 3A) and has a +9 rating in those games. Kent Simpson played stellar stopping 36 of 37 shots faced for his seventh win this season. Campbell Elynuik picked up two assists while Kellan Tochkin and Byron Froese rounded out the scoring for Everett. Tochkin also competed in his 100th WHL game Saturday night.

McGrath opened up the scoring for Everett at 9:53 of the first period. McGrath beat Tri-City goaltender Drew Owsley on a shot from the top left circle for the 1-0 Silvertips lead. Everett upped their lead to two on McGrath's second goal of the night after the Everett forward picked up a loose puck in front and put it home at 17:12.

Everett continued to ride their momentum with Harper's 18th of the season just 49 seconds into the second period. Ryan Murray lined up a slap shot from the point which was saved by Owsley and picked up by Harper in front for a 3-0 Everett lead. Sergei Drozd got the Americans on the board with a backhanded wrap around at 16:57 to conclude the scoring in the second period.

The third period proved to be all Everett starting off with Tochkin's sixth of the year at 1:24. Tochkin grabbed a loose puck in front of Owsley and pushed it in with one hand on his stick to make the score 4-1 Silvertips. Harper's second goal of the night proved to be a highlight reel goal at 6:04. Harper tip toed and toe dragged past two Tri-City defensemen before banking the puck off Owsley's pads and past the netminder for a 5-1 Everett lead. Owsley was then replaced by Brett Martyniuk in net. Everett scored their sixth goal of the night from Froese at 15:17. Tyler Maxwell cycled the puck to Tochkin behind the net, Tochkin fed Froese in the slot and snapped it past Martyniuk to finish off a 6-1 victory.

This brings the 'Tips record to 16-8-1-0 with 33 points in 25 games played. Everett heads back to Comcast Arena this Wednesday, December 2nd to take on the Kelowna Rockets.
