Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Cole Fonstad scored twice and Dustin Wolf furnished a 34 save effort to help lift the Everett Silvertips to a 4-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs before 6,005 fans at Angel of the Winds Arena in downtown Everett on Sunday in WHL action.
Gage Goncalves tallied a pair of assists as the Silvertips never trailed, improving to 7-0-1 this season against Spokane and 12-0-1-1 in the last 14 regular season meetings. The Tips swept the entire regular season series in downtown Everett over the Chiefs and are now 5-0-1 in the last six games.
UP NEXT: A first and second place showdown in the U.S. Division awaits the host Silvertips and Portland Winterhawks, Friday at 7:35 p.m. at Angel of the Winds Arena in downtown Everett. Ticket packages for Hockey Happy Hour presented by Broad Stroke Associates are on sale as low as $25, available at the link below, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.
A cagey start to the game had the Tips outshooting Spokane, 8-4 in the first 20 minutes, but not without quality scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Cole Fonstad buried the Silvertips second shorthanded goal of the season six minutes into the game on a three-on-two rush and snap shot between the circles on Lukas Parik.
Dustin Wolf then came back and stoned a pair of Spokane shorthanded attempts later in the period: first, a breakaway save on Eli Zummack, and then an Adam Beckman opportunity in the slot.
Fonstad and Jake Christiansen then patched back-to-back goals in the second period to extend the Silvertips lead, but not before Luke Toporowski's blast from the left wing tied the game just 1:06 into the period. Fonstad restored the Silvertips lead, 2-1 at 10:58 when he received Jacob Wright's pass at the Spokane blueline, skated to the right circle and uncorked a snapshot off Parik's glove.
The Tips then went up 3-1 when Christiansen took a Goncalves pass at the blueline, shoulder faked to the left circle, and unleashed a snap shot, high glove on Parik at 12:51. Wolf and Parik were particularly busy handling a high tempo attack at both ends, with the Tips outshooting Spokane, 14-13 in the period.
Ty Kolle's 16th goal of the season, a low backhander through Parik's five hole, put the Tips out to a 4-1 lead at 11:58 of the third period for the final tally.
Parik took the loss on 27 saves.
NOTES: Scratched from tonight's game was Dawson Butt, Gianni Fairbrother, and Tyson Phare ... Goncalves picked up his 16th multi point game of the season ... Wyatte Wylie had an assist for 24 points in the last 24 games against Spokane ... in the Silvertips current 5-0-1 run, Wolf has appeared in every minute in net with a .957 save percentage and 1.16 goals-against-average.
