Silverbacks Take Unbeaten Streak to Armada FC
August 14, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Riding a wave of a four-match unbeaten streak and an avalanche of NASL honors, the Atlanta Silverbacks (5-7-2, 22 points Combined Table) will pay a historic Match Day 19 visit to expansion-side Jacksonville Armada (5-4-8, 19 points) on Saturday (7:30 p.m. | ESPN3). Both sides enter Community First Park with momentum: Jacksonville thrashed the Carolina RailHawks, 3-0, in a midweek meeting on Wednesday and the Silverbacks are boasting the reigning NASL Player of the Week and Play of the Week recipients.
Atlanta has scored 14 goals in eight Fall Season matches - doubling the 10-game Spring Season total, thanks largely to the attacking production of NASL Player of the Week Pedro Mendes and back-to-back Play of the Week honorees Jaime Chavez (Week 5) and Junior Burgos (Week 6). The Silverbacks have rattled off a 4-2-2 Fall run of results to sit in second place and just five points off Ottawa Fury's pace. In the Club's hot start, Atlanta's front three have created or scored 13 of the team's 14 goals. The always stalwart Silverbacks backline has allowed just 11 goals this Fall.
Armada FC has been on a rampage of their own in front of goal, scoring nine goals this Fall - with all coming since July 18 - after starting with three consecutive shutout losses to open the season. Despite their goal-scoring swing, Jacksonvile has allowed 13 goals this Fall - including one in their loss at Atlanta Silverbacks Park on July 11.
The NASL's newest team has already visited Atlanta twice through the combined season, drawing 1-1 on May 16 and falling 1-0 on July 11. This visit will be the final meeting between the sides this season - barring a potential postseason meeting, but both sides are currently on the outside-looking-in for the Championship. It will be the first-ever visit to Jacksonville for the Silverbacks - one of the NASL's Original Eight when the league revived in 2011.
Atlanta will then return to Atlanta Silverbacks Park for a two-match homestand. The Silverbacks will host Indy Eleven on July 22 (7:30 p.m.), presented by COUNTRY Financial, and FC Edmonton on July 29 (7:30 p.m.), presented by Univision.
