FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton (3W-3D-2L) take on Carolina RailHawks (2W-2D-3L) Sunday, Aug. 16 at 2:00 p.m. MT. The Eddies ninth North American Soccer League (NASL) match will take place at Clarke Field in a match presented by World Health.

The Eddies are coming off a road 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC. The Loons took the lead in the second half from the penalty spot and the Eddies answered off the foot of striker Tomi Ameobi, tying Lance Laing at the top of the Eddies goal-scoring list with six.

Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel and midfielder Laing earned NASL Team of the Week honours for their performances against Minnesota. VanOekel was outstanding against his former team, while Laing got his league-leading sixth assist on Ameobi's equalizer.

The RailHawks are coming off a Wednesday defeat to Jacksonville Armada. Carolina was unable to mount a comeback after Jacksonville scored back-to-back goals midway through the opening half. Jacksonville currently sits in sixth place in the Fall Season standings and fifth-place in the Combined standings.

RailHawks striker Nacho Novo has been Carolina's main threat in 2015 with seven goals in 13 appearances. The Spanish Striker has played for European clubs such as Rangers, Dundee and Sporting Gijón.

The second match at Clarke Field between the two sides carries major playoff implications. With a win, the Eddies would leapfrog the RailHawks and could climb as high as fourth if Minnesota United FC and Atlanta Silverbacks FC lose.

"It is another important fixture for us," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. "We need to capture as many points as we can at home. Carolina will be hurting after their result on Wednesday...they have one of the best coaches in the league and they will be looking for a big reaction after their loss. We must be prepared to match that. If we can do that, then we will give ourselves a chance on Sunday."

FC Edmonton returns to Clarke Field, Sunday, Aug. 16 to host Carolina RailHawks. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. MT in the match presented by World Health. The match will be broadcast live locally on City TV and on ESPN3 in the United States. For the best deals on tickets, contact the FC Edmonton office at 780-700-2600.
