Silverbacks Prepare For Monterrey After Close Loss To Dallas In PK's

The Atlanta Silverbacks are amidst their toughest week of the 2007 season, they just surpassed the season's halfway point and they're playing in top form. The Atlanta franchise shutout the league-leading Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 on Saturday night (7.7.07) and then took FC Dallas of the MLS to two overtime periods and six rounds of penalty kicks before falling 4-3 on PK's last night (7.9.07). The grueling week will continue on Thursday against Rayados de Monterrey, a legendary team from the Mexican First Division, at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. Unfortunately for the Silverbacks, the U.S. Open Cup and international exhibition matches do not slow down the USL First Division's regular season. The No.2 team in the league, the Rochester Raging Rhinos, will come to town on Saturday to seek revenge on the Silverbacks. The two teams met on June 29 in Rochester when the Silverbacks handed the Rhinos their first home loss of the season. The Silverbacks are currently ranked sixth in the USL First Division with 22 points and a 6-5-4 record.

MONTERREY PREPARES FOR FIRST MATCH AT RE/MAX GREATER ATLANTA STADIUM

For the first time since moving into their new home at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium, the Atlanta Silverbacks will bring international soccer to the Atlanta sports community. The Silverbacks will host Rayados de Monterrey, a Mexican First Division team, in an international exhibition match sponsored by Tecate, on Thursday, July 12 at 7:55 pm.

Tecate has planned a soccer extravaganza where fans will be treated to an autograph session with Seleccion Tecate players, a photograph session with the Senadoras from Univision's "Republica Deportiva," and a high-energy halftime show sponsored by Alka-Seltzer.
