July 10, 2007 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release
TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division and USL Second Division Teams of the Week for the 12th week of the season, honoring Rochester's Hamed Diallo and Harrisburg's Mo Oduour as the Players of the Week, respectively.
Entering the match Friday night against budding rival and expansion side Carolina, the Rhinos were on a two-game home losing streak and carrying numerous injuries, including the news of loss of leading scorer Matthew Delicate, perhaps for the season, with a broken jaw suffered in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Seattle.
Three minutes into the match Hamed Diallo put the Rhinos on the board when he got behind the Carolina defense and dribbled around league-leading goalkeeper Chris McClellan to score the opening tally and remove the weight of the team's 255-minute goal drought.
Carolina would strike a short time later to level the match at 1-1, but it was Diallo three minutes into stoppage time at the close of the match who proved the hero when the Rhinos were looking at a share of points. Diallo headed down a Scott Palguta cross from six yards to send the crowd into a frenzy at the final whistle.
The Harrisburg City Islanders have been quietly stalking the league leaders in the table with Charlotte having played more games and Richmond going unbeaten until this past weekend. Harrisburg improved to 7-2-4 on the season with a pair of shutout road victories on the weekend with Mo Oduor providing both match winners.
After falling the previous week 1-0 to the Kickers, the City Islanders rebounded with a 2-0 victory in Wilmington Friday night. Oduor opened the scoring in the 32nd minute for what proved to be the winner with Morty Johnston providing insurance just in case two minutes into the second half.
The following night in Charlotte, Oduor again provided the winner. He notched the lone goal when he controlled a long ball from midfield and drove into the box, beating the Charlotte defense before burying a hard shot inside the left post in the 42nd minute.
