
Silverbacks Continue U.S. Open Cup Campaign Tonight At Re/Max Greater Atlanta Stadium

The Atlanta Silverbacks will host the Charlotte Eagles tonight in the second round of the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:55 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks beat Azzurri FC (USASA) 10-0 in the first round to advance to play tonight, while the Eagles beat Lynch's Irish Pub (USASA) 2-0 to advance. The Silverbacks' ten goals against Azzurri FC set a record for the most goals scored in a single game by one team in a U.S. Open Cup match. After a heartbreaking loss to Charleston in stoppage time, the Silverbacks will be look to redeem themselves tonight on the pitch against a tough USL Second Division side.
The Eagles lead the USL Second Division with a 9-3-0 record and 27 points. Their biggest offensive threat has been Jacob Coggins - he has recorded 11 goals and five assists on the season. Coggins leads the Second Division stat rankings for points (27), goals (11), assists (5), and shots (42). Dustin Swineheart is another Eagle the Silverbacks will need to keep their eye one - he has recorded five goals and three assists.
The winner of tonight's match will advance to take on FC Dallas of the MLS in Texas in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup. The Silverbacks are 3-5 in their U.S. Open Cup history which dates back to 2002 when they lost 2-1 in overtime to Dallas (MLS).

WOMEN PLAY CHARLOTTE ON THURSDAY - RIVALRY REARS ITS HEAD ONCE AGAIN
Every time the Silverbacks Women take on the Charlotte Lady Eagles fans can expect intense match-ups all over the field, hard fought battles for 50-50 balls, and lots of shots and goals. When the Silverbacks host the Lady Eagles on Thursday night at 7:55 pm in an exhibition match, it will be no different. Although the game will not count towards the 2007 USL W-League season, the true nature of a rivalry will appear when the players exhibit the same intensity and attitude on the field.
The two teams have met twice this season with the Eagles winning 3-0 in Charlotte and the Silverbacks winning 2-0 in Atlanta. The game may not count towards their regular season, but it will break the tie in their 2007 series and that will surely bring exciting play to RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium once again.
The Silverbacks Women remain in first place of the W-League's Atlantic Division. The team will resume regular season play on Saturday evening in Florida when they take on the Cocoa Expos.
