Forward Alen Marcina Is Named Player Of The Week
June 26, 2007 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Montreal Impact News Release
MONTREAL - Montreal Impact forward Alen Marcina was chosen United Soccer Leagues First Division Player of the Week (10th). It's the first time this season that an Impact player receives this honour.
Acquired on June 14 from the Puerto Rico Islanders in return for midfielder Lars Lyssand, Marcina tallied one goal and one assist in his first two games on the road with the Impact.
On June 21, in a 1-1 tie with the Timbers in Portland, Marcina scored the tying goal in the 86th minute. Less than 48 hours later, in Seattle, Marcina added an assist on midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo's winning goal, in the Impact's 1-0 win against the Sounders.
"He just joined the team so this honour is good for his confidence," said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. "It's also good for the team to count on a player like him who is already showing great things offensively. He made his mark in the league with his speed and his confidence around the net and we saw it in the last two games."
Di Lorenzo was also named to the USL D1 Team of the Week. It is already a fifth selection for the Argentinean player, who is currently the Impact leader in points with three goals and three assists (nine points).
Marcina will face his former team this Friday, when the Impact will square off against the Puerto Rico Islanders at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, at 7 pm (Télévision de Radio-Canada, Sirius, USLlive.com).
