Silverados Basketball Camp A Big Success
June 19, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southeast Texas Mavericks News Release
McAllen, TX. The ABA RGV Silverados professional basketball team held its first kid's camp this past weekend at the Boys & Girls Club in McAllen, TX. 50 campers attended the camp. Boys and girls 6 to 14 years of age participated in the one day camp that tipped off the Silverados year round camps and clinics program that the team plans to build and grow in the months ahead.
"Yes, it was a big success. We were very pleased with the number of young players that came out to participate in our first camp. Our camp is a fundamentals camp that teaches players the correct way to play the game. A camp scenario should focus on more than just running up and down a basketball court," stated Silverados head coach Steve Tucker. "I think as a whole there needs to be more camps around the USA that focus on playing the game properly and teaching the correct techniques and fundamentals to players today. Our coaches that worked our camp this past weekend did a fantastic job of working with the players in attendance. It was a good day of basketball."
Local high school coaches Mo Molina, Brian Molina, Roy Swift and Rahim Muhammad assisted Coach Tucker and his staff with the basketball camp this past weekend.
All players who participated in the camp received certificates for participating. Two players were honored with trophies as the Mr. & Ms. Basketball Award Winners for outstanding performances in the camp. Nuine year old Jaida Muhammad was the Ms. Basketball award winner and 14-year old Daniel Constante won the Mr. Basketball award.
The second camp will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen on Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22. For further information, visit rgvsilverados.com or call 956 668 1116. The Silverados will be tipping off action at the new McAllen Convention Center this November. Season tickets are now on sale. For more information, visit www.abalive.com.
