Friday, June 9 vs. Minnesota Lynx, 7 p.m. The Ticket 760 AM

The WNBA's top two rookies face off this Friday as Sophia Young and the Silver Stars host Seimone Augustus and the Minnesota Lynx. This will mark the first of four games against the two Western Conference teams. The Silver Stars have a winning record (8-3) against the Lynx at home and are on a three game winning streak at the AT&T Center. Overall, San Antonio has a 10-14 record against Minnesota and will host the Lynx again next Friday, June 16.

Saturday, June 10 vs. New York Liberty, 7 p.m. The Ticket 760 AM

Vickie Johnson faces her former team of nine seasons, New York Liberty, for the first time this Saturday coincidently marking the celebration of the WNBA's 10th Anniversary. The Silver Stars ended their 2005 series against the Liberty with a win at the AT&T Center halting a six-game losing streak against New York. This season, the two teams will match up only twice as the Silver Stars strive to break their even record (4-4) at home and add a win to their 5-12 all-time record. The Silver Stars will travel to the Big Apple at the end of the month, June 30, to complete the season series.

News and Notes

The Silver Stars are perfect on the road with a 4-0 record so far this season. The last time they won four in a row on the road was June 24- August 7, 2001 when they won five straight as the Utah Starzz.

San Antonio ranks second in the Western Conference standings with a 4-2 record behind the Houston Comets who have a 5-1 record.

PeeWee Johnson and Vickie Johnson are among the 30 athletes on the WNBA all-decade team ballot. Voting runs through May 31 on www.wnba.com. Vickie is one of only seven players to have played all 10 seasons in the league and ranks No. 1 all time in minutes played. Meanwhile, PeeWee is the only player to amass more than 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, 800 rebounds and 300 steals in her career.

Sophia Young was ranked second overall on the WNBA.com's most recent rookie rankings, which highlights the play of the top five rookies of the week. Shanna Zolman received an honorable mention. Sophia leads all other rookies in rebounds per game (8.8 rpg) and double-doubles with 3 under her belt. She ranks second in the league in total rebounds with 53 and is tied for third in defensive rebounds per game averaging six.

Veteran Vickie Johnson leads the league in minutes per game averaging 33.5 and is also tied for third in assists per game with 4.7. She has seen more court time than any other player in WNBA history with 9,151 minutes played in 288 games over 10 seasons.

Kendra Wecker ranks fourth in the WNBA with a .600 3-point field goal percentage.

Shyra Ely has a fractured left foot and will be out indefinitely.

As apart of the 2006 Silver Stars Speaker series, WNBA President Donna Orender will inspire fans before the game on Saturday June 10, in celebration of the WNBA's 10th Anniversary. The chat will be at Express-News Headlines at 6:15 p.m.

After the game on Saturday, June 10, Silver Stars players will sign autographs for local girl scouts.
