Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Chico Outlaws just couldn?t stand prosperity Wednesday night, as the Reno Silver Sox erased three different Outlaws leads and eventually scored three runs in the 9th inning to beat Chico 10-9 in the third of a four-game series at Nettleton Stadium.

Before letting the game slip away in the final frame, the Outlaws never trailed in the contest. Chico went right to work in the 1st inning as Lino Garcia led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch third strike by Reno starter Errol Simonitsch. Jesse Kovacs, who reached first safely on the play, then stole second?and when Kovacs was wild pitched to third, Silver Sox catcher Adam Geery tried to throw him out but sailed the ball into left field; Kovacs scoring on the error to make it 2-0. In the 2nd the Outlaws went up 3-0 as Bryan Silverman walked, stole second and third and scored when Simonitsch was called for a balk. Reno came back to knot up the contest ? in the 3rd Gary Harris homered with a man aboard?then in the 5th a Harris sacrifice fly knocked in Andre Alvarado to make it three-all. Chico answered immediately ? RBI singles by Garcia, Casey Garrison and Julian Benavidez highlighted a four run 5th inning and put the Outlaws back on top 7-3.

Reno chipped away, scoring a run on a two-out Jose Valdez throwing error in the 6th?then in the 7th a sacrifice fly by Ryan Brown and two-out RBI singles Juan Senreiso and Ross McCoy resulted in three runs and a tie ballgame at seven apiece. The Outlaws went back up 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th when Valdez singled home Kovacs, who had reached on an error. Chico turned to closer Todd Gelatka in the 9th to lock down the victory, but it was not to be ? with the bases loaded and one out, Gelatka walked McCoy to force home the tying run?then two batters later light-hitting Doug Sanders lined an opposite-field single to right, plating Senreiso and John Hattig to give the Silver Sox a 10-8 lead ? their first of the night. Mitch Arnold came on in the bottom of the 9th to get the final three outs for Reno?the Outlaws made it a one-run game when Valdez delivered a two-out single to right to chase home Garrison and make it a one run game?but Arnold struck out Julian Benavidez to end it and give the Silver Sox the come-from-behind victory.

Scott Schneider (2-2), the third of four Reno pitchers used by Silver Sox manager Jeffrey Leonard, got credit for the win, with Arnold picking up his third save of the season?Gelatka (2-3) was saddled with the loss. Valdez led a 10 hit Chico attack with a 3-for-5 night, while Garcia chipped in with a pair of safeties?Senreiso and Carlos Madrid had three hits apiece as Reno piled up 14 in the hit column.

The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park on Friday, August 8, for a two day, three game series against the St. George Roadrunners with the game on Friday beginning at 7:00 PM.
