
Silver Sox Knot Up Series With 7-2 Win Over Outlaws

CHICO, CA - The Reno Silver Sox chalked up a rare road win Thursday night, as Matt Parris - with relief help from Jason Martinez and Shawn Balteff and backed by a 14-hit attack - downed the Chico Outlaws 7-2 at Nettleton Stadium...the win evening up the three game series at one win apiece.
Reno struck quickly with a pair of 1st inning runs off Chico starter Tyler Pearson as Carlos Madrid delivered a two-out single to plate Victor Hall and Juan Senreiso. The Silver Sox made it 3-0 with a run in the 2nd...Ryan Brown led off with a single, went to third on a double by Kane Simmons and scored on a Maurice Cole groundout. The Outlaws pulled to within one with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd on RBI singles by Steve Boggs and Jesse Kovacs...but it would turn out to be all the runs Chico would be able to muster on the evening.
Reno pushed the lead back to three in the 4th as Simmons drove in Mike Done with his second double of the game...later in the inning Hall would single home Brown to make the score 5-2. Chico got plenty of runners aboard against Parris from the 3rd through the 6th inning but couldn't push across any runs...in the 7th the Silver Sox completed the scoring as Ryan Kowalski and Jose Rodriguez contributed RBI singles to put Reno up 7-2. Martinez and Balteff combined to allow just one Outlaws hit over the next three-and-a-third innings; Balteff getting the final three outs in the 9th to the Silver Sox just their fourth road victory in 16 tries this season.
Parris (3-4) went six-and-a-third innings to pick up the win...Pearson (2-2) was saddled with the loss. Kovacs had two of the Outlaws seven hits on the night, with Boggs extending his hitting streak to 16 straight...every Reno starter had at least one hit, with Hall, Kowalski, Senreiso, Brown and Simmons chipping in with two safeties apiece. Thursday's loss dropped Chico to 19-8 on the season...the Outlaws also saw their lead in the Golden Baseball League's first half race shaved to just two games over second place Long Beach. Reno improved to 11-15 on the season. The rubber match of the three game series is set for Friday, with Chico sending left-hander Derrick Loop (4-1) to the mound...Reno will throw righty James Johnson (0-1).
