Reno Silver Sox News Release
Silver Sox manager Les Lancaster has been busy working the phones finding players to help improve his current roster.
"The second half should be interesting for us, we have to make a lot of improvements, especially on defense, but I feel confident. We really came on strong in the last part of the first half," said Lancaster.
Over the last 18 games the Silver Sox are 12-6 showing that they have the ability to win the second half. The Silver Sox are also hitting .289 with 17 homeruns and 84 RBIs just in the month of July, showing the offensive power the Silver Sox are capable of. However with 25 errors, the Silver Sox also have a lot of work to do on defense.
Overall, things are looking positive for the Silver Sox going into the 2nd half. After having to deal with so many injuries; J.J. Johnson, J.J. Sherrill, Keaton Everitt, Matt Scott, Dustin Hahn, etc., and after starting 2-8 over their first ten games, the Silver Sox have no where to go but up in the second half. Still, after last season the bar has been set high and only time will tell if the current Silver Sox team has what it takes to meet those expectations. Silver Sox Making Moves for 2nd Half
The Reno Silver Sox have been busy making moves to fill the holes that opened up during the first half of the season.
First, the Silver Sox released two pitchers, Mike Peck and Chris Testa.
Peck pitched in eight games for the Silver Sox. Over those eight games, Peck compiled an 0 - 0 record with one save. However, Peck also had an 12.71 ERA over 5.2 innings pitched, with three strikeouts to ten walks.
Testa made 12 appearances for the Silver Sox and compiled a 1 - 2 record with one save. Pitching 15 innings, Testa had a 5.40 ERA, with 13 strikeouts to 10 walks.
Taking the roster spots of Peck and Testa are pitchers Julio Soriano and Eric Thomas.
Soriano, who was released last week from the Orioles single A farm club in Aberdeen. In two appearances for the Silver Sox, Soriano has pitched two innings with four strikeouts and has only allowed two hits.
Thomas, a 6?9 relief pitcher, was released by the Angels organization last week and has been working out in Arizona with former Silver Sox hitting coach Rafael Melchione. In 11 1/3 innings, Thomas had a 12.71 ERA with a 1-2 record. Thomas had 17 strikeouts to 13 walks along with nine wild pitches.
"Thomas can throw 94-95 mph, but did not have control over his pitches. We can help him with that," said manager Les Lancaster.
Current Silver Sox Recovering
The condition of current Silver Sox 3B Carlos Madrid and SS Chuck Sindlinger has been rapidly improving.
Madrid who was out with a hamstring injury is on track to return to the Silver Sox for the second half. In the meantime, Madrid has been placed on the inactive list.
Sindlinger sprained his ankle a week ago has been slowly adding more weight to it day by day. Sindlinger was placed on the inactive list, but has been removed this week and looks to make a comeback for the second half.
