Worcester Bravehearts News Release

NASHUA, NH - The Bravehearts headed north in an attempt to begin a winning streak as hot as the weather this week. However, they found a cold front in their offense once again. Two days after being shutout 11-0 in Pittsfield, and just one day after bouncing back with an 11-1 win at home against Torrington, the Worcester Bravehearts (31-16) brought their seesaw offense on the road as the Nashua Silver Knights (29-17), losing 8-0 at Holman Stadium.

In the last two shutout loses for Worcester, it's been the starting pitching that has lead to early deficits for the team. Bravehearts pitcher Zach Whitaker (Saint Leo/Land O Lakes, FL) didn't have the right stuff on the road, as he lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up all eight Silver Knight runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out two batters.

Things looked bleak right away for Whitaker and the Bravehearts, as Nashua jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to Mickey Gasper's (Bryant/Merrimack, NH) two-out, solo home run. They would take on one run in the second before the flood gates opened up in the third inning.

With the score 3-0 in the third, Nashua tacked on five more runs, ultimately chasing Whitaker from the game. Chris Sullivan (Hartford/Westfield, MA) grounded into a fielders choice, but due to an error, a total of three runs came in on the play. Sean Mooney (St. John's/Ocean City, NJ) faired much better for Nashua on the mound.

Mooney was great in keeping the Bravehearts' bats quiet as he lasted eight full innings, only giving up five hits, walking one and striking out six without giving up a run. Ryan Ward (Bryant/Millbury, MA) was the one bright spot for Worcester offensively, as he went 2-for-4 with a double.

Worcester's Sam Steeves also performed well in relief of Whitaker, going three shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out three batters.
