Syracuse Silver Knights Control the Ball vs. the St. Louis Ambush

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Doug Miller and Bo Jelovac spur the Syracuse Silver Knights (6-6, Eastern Division #3) in a 3-2 shootout victory against the Saint Louis Ambush (2-10, Central Division #5).
Goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin impressed in his first start of the season. The former Canisius Griffin stopped 12 shots, including a game-saving effort against Anthony Arico on a 1v1 in the second quarter. The Baldwinsville, New York native loomed largest in the shootout. He forced Freddy Moojen and Richard Schmermund into efforts wide of the goal.
"I think it was the nerves and the adrenaline on that breakaway save," Coughlin said postgame. "This was my first time in a shootout like that, and it was exciting."
Coughlin was signed on Wednesday and replaced veteran Bryan O'Quinn in goal.
Jer Jer Gibson and Darren Toby scored in regulation for the Silver Knights. On a neat turn, Gibson tallied his 10th goal of the season in the second quarter. After Andre Hayne evened the match in the third quarter, Toby made it 2-1 Syracuse on a 50-50 won against Ambush goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa.
Freddy Moojen leveled the game for a final time in the fourth quarter. On a set piece, the indoor soccer veteran put away a rebound after Coughlin saved his initial strike.
The match also saw the debut of the newly signed Doug Miller. The 2013 MISL MVP recorded 2 shots in his first minutes of action in the 2016 MASL season.
"I hope that I added the spark for Tommy to help get tough wins in tough situations," Miller explained after the match. "That was a tough team to play against. They may not have the record, but they certainly know how to play the game."
The victory ends SSK's two game losing streak.
