Silver Knights Dazzle in Opening Exhibition Match

November 1, 2014 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, New York - The Syracuse Silver Knights dazzled in front of a crowded CNY Family Sports Centre. It was the supporters' first opportunity to see the team. The Orange, Silver and Black defeated the Fort Drum Mountain Lions 18-3 in the club's lone tune up before the start of the Major Arena Soccer League Season. The Knights will begin their 2014-2015 campaign on the road against the Baltimore Blast on November 8.

The MASL club started the game off on the right foot. After an extended string of passes, Antonio Manfut scored the first of his two total goals on the night at the 10:50 mark of the first quarter to give the hosts a lead it would not give up. Baldwinsville-native, Nate Bourdeau also chipped in with a brace in the opening frame.

"Everyone on the team was able to get in," Head Coach Tommy Tanner said. "Every player played at least three of the five quarters."

In the later stages of the game, newcomer Gabriel Salles put in a pair of goals in fourth quarter. The scores occurred two minutes apart at the 13:00 and 11:00 and displayed the attackers creative play.

"Gabriel and Anthony Grant really impressed me. I'm going to have some tough decisions on roster moves," Tanner explained.

This will be the first of two meetings between the Silver Knights and Mountain Lions, the second being an off-field affair. The Salt City club will auction off jerseys for the Wounded Soldiers of Fort Drum in its MASL match against the Rochester Lancers at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena on February 22, 2014.

"This is a great opportunity to build a relationship with the Mountain Lions in something that helps the local community," Vice President Allen Laventure explained. "We want to show our commitment to Central New York, while showing we have a lot of men and serving in the area."

The Silver Knights will kickoff its fourth indoor soccer season in the MASL on November 8 on the road against the Baltimore Blast, followed by the home opener versus the Ontario Fury on November 21 at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena at 7:30 PM. Tickets to all Silver Knights home games will be available at the CNY Family Sports Centre, online at www.syracusesilverknights.com or over the phone at 315-300-7261.
