
Silent Auction, Matt Murton Added to Cubs Caravan Visit

Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club today identified several items that will be part of a silent auction at the Chicago Cubs Caravan presented by U. S. Steel-Gary Works on Wednesday, January 17, 2007. The event is being coordinated by the RailCats and all proceeds from the event and the auction will go to the Home Field Advantage Foundation, which benefits youth baseball and softball in Gary.
The following items will be available for bid (number of each item in parenthesis):
Derrek Lee autographed bat (1)
Lou Piniella autographed jersey (1)
Chicago Cubs cap signed by Cubs Caravan participants (6 caps)
Baseball signed by Cubs Caravan participants (12 balls)
Set of four passes to the 2007 Cubs Convention (2 sets)
Certificate for a Wrigley Field "Name in Lights" on the Cubs Marquee (2)
Set of four tickets to the 2007 Wrigley Field Tours (1)
Cubs Dream Day Certificate including four tickets and the chance to watch batting practice from the field (2 certificates)
Meanwhile, the RailCats learned today that outfielder Matt Murton has been added to the list of Cubs players expected to appear at the event at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. Highway 30 in Merrillville. Murton hit .297 with 13 home runs in his first full season with the Cubs in 2006.
The Cubs Caravan is also expected to include new manager Lou Piniella, pitchers Ryan Dempster, Sean Marshall, and Michael Wuertz; infielder Mark DeRosa, and pitching prospect Donnie Veal.
Tickets to the event are on sale now for $20.00 per person. Tickets are available at the RailCats Ticket Office at U. S. Steel Yard or by calling (219) 882-2255. Ticket price includes a dinner of hot dogs, chips, and soda. A maximum of 1,000 will be sold.
The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. As fans enter, they will be given a coupon with the name of one of the attending members of the Cubs and will be able to obtain that person's autograph from 5:45 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Fans will be able to obtain the autograph of only the Cub on their coupon. The silent auction will conclude at 6:40 p.m.
