Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - The first place Sioux Falls Stampede (42-14-2) got a three-goal performance from Ryan Siiro and held on to their lead, defeating the Tri-City Storm (22-29-7) 6-3 on Saturday night at the Viaero Event Center.
The Storm got contributions from assistant captain Michael Vecchione, who had a power play goal late in the first, along with goals by Eli May and Kyle Eastman.
Sioux Falls got out to a two-goal lead in the opening period behind goals from defenseman Matt Van Voorhis and Ryan Siiro and took the early advantage.
But Tri-City scored on their first power play when forward Trevor Moore found Vecchione in front with 13 seconds left in the period to make it 2-1.
In the second, the Storm tied the game when May scored his first career USHL goal by launching a shot from the right point that got deflected by Stampede goaltender Charlie Lindgren.
Tri-City then went on the power play with an opportunity to take the lead, but a breakaway shorthanded goal by C.J. Franklin changed the momentum of the game and gave the Stampede a 3-2 lead.
The lead was widened to 4-2 with under a minute left in the second when Siiro scored his second of the game on a rebound in front of the Storm net.
In the third, the Storm attempted a comeback, getting a goal on a deflection by Kyle Eastman, but Siiro scored his third to complete the hat trick and Tri-City fell by a final score of 6-3.
Justin Quale made 25 saves for the Storm in the loss, while Lindgren made 26 for Sioux Falls to pick up the win.
Tri-City will head on the road next week to face Waterloo and Des Moines. The Storm will return to Kearney for a game on Apr. 6 against Des Moines at 7:05 p.m.
