Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings organization is proud to announce on behalf of Wings forward #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson that he has been selected to play for team Iceland in the 2014 World Junior Championships. Team Iceland will be featured in the Division II - Group B with games played in Jaca, Spain from January 11th to January 17th. The other teams featured in the pool will be Australia, China, Spain, Korea, and Serbia.
Sigurdarson was signed by the Aberdeen Wings prior to the start of the 2013-2014 season, so far scoring 4 goals and adding 15 assists, including 2 goals last Friday night against rival Bismarck. He also played for team Iceland in the 2012 IIHF U18 Championships.
"We are excited for Bjorn on being selected to represent his country at the World Junior Championships," said Wings head coach Travis Winter. "It's going to be a great experience for him and we wish him luck at the tournament."
Sigurdarson is the second foreign player for the Aberdeen Wings to be selected to the 2014 World Junior Championships, as Wings forward #25 Lennart Palausch is currently in camp with team Germany preparing for the 2014 WJC Division I tournament in Malmo, Sweden.
