Sidewinders Hold on for Win in Fresno

Shortstop Tim Olson held on to a shallow pop fly after colliding with Brian Gordon to end Friday night's game and helping Tucson top Fresno 6-5. The Grizzlies scored a run without a hit in the bottom of the ninth off Brian Bruney and had the bases loaded for Cody Ransom. Ransom took the first two pitches for balls before he flied out to Olson to end the game.

The Sidewinders built a 5-1 lead scoring a run in the second inning, three in the third and a single run in the fourth. Jhonny Carvajal started the scoring in the second with a sacrifice fly scoring Chad Tracy. Tracy drove home a pair of runs in the third before Marvin Bernard over ran his single, allowing Mike Bell to also score from first. Carvajal connected for a solo home run in the fourth.

The Grizzlies responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, all scoring with two outs, to pull within 5-4.

Doug DeVore pushed the lead back to 6-4 in the top of the fifth when he singled in Bell who had doubled.

Chris Capuano earned his ninth win of the year, allowing three earned runs in six innings of work. Bruney collected his 11th save.

Tucson improved to 68-66. The Sidewinders and Grizzlies will finish off the five-game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Grizzlies Stadium. John Patterson (8-4 2.56) will start for Tucson against the Grizzlies James Garcia (1-0 2.63).
