Sidewinders drop regular season finale

Tacoma - Jon Nelson's two run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Tacoma a one run lead and Caesar Jimenez closed out the Sidewinders in the top of the ninth as the Tacoma Rainiers beat the Sidewinders 3-2 on Monday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. The Sidewinders end their regular season with a record of 91-53. It is the best mark in Tucson baseball history as well as the best record in all of Triple-A baseball.
Tucson had an early 1-0 lead on the strength of Donnie Sadler's home run in the top of the second inning and extended their advantage to 2-0 on Kenny Perez's RBI single in the third. Sadler's home run was his first of the year and first since April18th, 2003.
Tacoma halved the lead in the bottom of the third on Jeff Clement's RBI single to left off Tucson starter Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf went five innings and allowed just the one run on six hits in his Triple-A debut. He struck out four and walked none.
Mike Koplove threw two scoreless innings in relief of Ohlendorf before giving way to Daigle in the eighth. Daigle (3-5) struck out T.J. Bohn to open the inning but allowed a single to Clement in front of Nelson's home run.
Scott Atchison earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Jimenez gave up a two out single to Daigle in the ninth but got Matt Erickson to ground out for his third save in as many chances.
The Sidewinders will have Tuesday off before opening the PCL playoffs on Wednesday night at Tucson Electric Park. Tucson has not yet released their playoff rotation but it is believed that right-hander Micah Owings (10-0 3.70) will start game one against right-hander Kasey Olenberger (7-5 5.10) for Salt Lake. First pitch is at 6:30. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15.
