Hale named PCL Manager of the Year

Tucson, AZ - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Tucson Sidewinders skipper Chip Hale has been named the Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year for the 2006 season. Chip becomes the first Manager in Sidewinders history and fourth in Tucson franchise history to win the award, which is chosen by league managers and media representatives.
In his third season with the Sidewinders Hale has guided Tucson to a 91-52 record with one game remaining during the regular season. The team has enjoyed a record setting season under Hale's tutelage, clinching the first Division Title and playoff birth in Sidewinders history. The club has also reached 90 wins in a season for the first time in Tucson's 39 seasons in the PCL. Tucson has guaranteed themselves the best record in all of minor league baseball during the 2006 season.
Hale owns a .562 winning percentage with a record of 405-316 in 6 seasons as a minor league manager, all in the Diamondbacks organization. His 235 wins sit atop the Sidewinders record book and place him fourth all-time in Tucson history. Hale was chosen to coach the World Team at the 2006 Futures Game, which took place during the Major League All-Star Festivities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jimmy Johnson (1980), Bob Skinner (1991) and Rick Sweet are the only other managers in the Tucson franchise history to garner the prestigious award.
SS Steven Drew, 2B Alberto Callaspo and OF Scott Hairston also received recognition for their outstanding seasons by being named to the All-PCL Team. Tucson was the only team in PCL to have more than two players named to the squad.
