Dallas Sidekicks News Release

ALLEN, Texas (Jan. 27, 2013) - The Dallas Sidekicks have put an end to the San Diego Sockers' record-breaking 48-0 winning streak that dated back to December 29, 2010. The streak was the longest in United States professional sports history. Jamie Lovegrove's four goals and Shaun David's overtime breakaway put the Sidekicks up 6-5. The team's 10-2 record has currently secured their first place position in the PASL's Central Division.

Both teams had prime chances early in the overtime period, but it was Shaun David who came out the hero. David beat a defender to a throw in from Sidekicks goaltender Sagu and shot under San Diego goalkeeper Riley Swift to win the game and break the historic winning streak.

The fourth period was intense from the beginning, the Sidekicks killing off a San Diego powerplay. San Diego kept constant pressure on Sagu and the Sidekicks defense, but the unit was unrelenting. The 4,701 fans in the Allen Event Center were deafening going into the remaining seconds of the match, but San Diego quieted the crowd instantly when Kraig Chiles scored with six seconds remaining in the match, sending the game to overtime.

The whirlwind of a third period began with Lovegrove catching a rebound off the boards from Renato Pereira and rocketing it past Swift at 1:03. A little more than a minute later Lovegrove completed his second hat trick of the season, taking a pass from Cody Ellis, beating out a Sockers defender and putting it in the top corner of the net at 2:01 to put the Sidekicks up 4-2. Just 15 seconds later the Sockers struck back, Raymundo Reza cutting the Sidekicks lead to 4-3. Reza capitalized once again at 7:14, the Sockers tying the game for the second time. It did not take long for Lovegrove to record his fourth of the night and put the Sidekicks back on top, Swift getting a piece of the shot but not able to save the Sidekicks from going up 5-4 at 8:36

San Diego's Chiles put his team on the board at 10:21 in the second period, and soon after Anthony Medina tied the game at two-a-piece at 11:50. The score would remain tied going into halftime, both sides coming up short on powerplay chances. The first period was all Sidekicks, Pereira battling a ball out of the corner of the pitch and getting it to Lovegrove who capitalized for the first goal of the night at 5:21. A few minutes later at 10:34, David intercepted a pass from Swift in the center of the arc and put it away to put the Sidekicks up 2-0.

The Sidekicks are hitting the road this week, the first stop Las Vegas to take on the Legends at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31 at the Orleans Arena. The team will then drive to San Diego to face the Sockers the next day on February 1. The match kicks off at 9:35 at the Valley View Casino Center.

The Sidekicks will return home to face off against the Rockford Rampage at the Allen Event Center on Saturday, February 9 at 7:00 p.m. The Sidekicks organization will be honoring Head Coach Tatu by retiring his #9 jersey at halftime.
