
Sidekicks Sign Two, Doyle off IR, Dugas out for Season

DALLAS - The Dallas Sidekicks signed goalkeeper DJ Horvath for the remainder of the 2003-04 season.
Horvath was acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Comets on February 11 and signed to a 5-game/15-day contract. He is 2-2 with a 4.45 goals against average in four games with the Sidekicks. Horvath spent the beginning of the 2003-04 MISL season with the Kansas City Comets. He had a 5-9 record in 15 games this season with a 7.39 goals against average.
Also, Sidekicks' All-Star forward David Doyle will come off injured reserve Wednesday and is expected to play in the game at Monterrey (8-18) that evening. Doyle suffered a broken ankle in the first quarter of the Sidekicks 1-0 victory over Philadelphia at Reunion Arena January 25. Doyle had 19 goals and 14 assists in 21 games before the injury.
Fellow forward Vassar Cates was signed for the remainder of the season. Cates had one block in two games after signing a 5-game/15-day contract on October 21, 2003. He has been with the Sidekicks practice squad and playing for the Texas Thunder of the Premier Arena Soccer League since his previous contract expired.
Midfielder Martin Dugas will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg during practice Tuesday. He was tied for fifty on the team in scoring with 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists in 23 games.
The Sidekicks (16-12) have a five-game lead over the San Diego Sockers (11-17) in the MISL Western Division. The Sidekicks magic number to clinch the Western Division is four. The Sidekicks next game is the make-up date at Monterrey Wednesday March 10 at 8:35 p.m. Coverage on KSKY 660 AM begins at 8:20 p.m. The Sidekicks then travel to the Cleveland Force (9-19) for a game Sunday March 14 at 4:05 p.m. Coverage on KSKY 660 AM begins at 3:50 p.m.
