
Steamers fall to Cleveland, Milwaukee, travel to San Diego March 14

The Steamers dropped a pair of games over the past weekend â 6-2 to Cleveland March 6 at The Family Arena, and 10-3 to Milwaukee March 7 at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena. With a pair of victories over the weekend, Milwaukee clinched the MISL Central Division title. Despite their two losses, the Steamers remain firmly in the hunt for the sixth and final MISL playoff berth. The top six teams in the MISL standings â regardless of division â make the playoffs. San Diego and Kansas City, the teams immediately ahead of St. Louis in the overall standings, also dropped games over the past weekend. Kansas City, which plays at Philadelphia March 9, is fifth overall and one full game ahead of the Steamers; San Diego is currently sixth, ½ game ahead of St. Louis. The Steamers have a key road game at San Diego, March 14 at 7 p.m. CST, before returning to The Family Arena for home games March 17 against Dallas and March 19 against Kansas City; both home games kick off at 7:35 p.m.

The Steamers travel to San Diego to take on the Sockers in a 5 p.m. PST (7 p.m. CST) kickoff at the San Diego Sports Arena. The game is the fourth and final matchup of the year between the two teams and an important game as both teams try to secure an MISL playoff berth. San Diego won the first battle of the season â December 14 in San Diego â 8-1. However, the Steamers defeated the Sockers in the past two matchups at The Family Arena. On Feb. 7, Steamers forward Sterling Wescott had two goals and two assists in a 6-2 St. Louis victory. On Feb. 16, Steamers forward Steve Butcher had three goals and player-coach Daryl Doran had two goals and an assist in the team's 6-3 triumph over the Sockers.

Butcher registers 30th goal of season St. Louis Steamers forward Steve Butcher continues to be one of the most explosive offensive performers in the MISL. Butcher, who recently scored a goal in his first MISL All-Star Game, registered a tally in each of the Steamers' games over the past weekend to bring his season total to 30. For Butcher, 25, the goal total is a career high; he scored 27 goals for Cleveland in 2001-02. Butcher currently is tied with Philadelphia's Don D'Ambra for third in the MISL in goals. Milwaukee's red-hot Greg Howes leads the MISL with 47 goals and Kansas City's Dino Delevski is second with 35. Butcher ranks sixth in the MISL in points with 44.
Sibiya coming on strong St. Louis forward Sipho Sibiya had a goal and two assists in the Steamers' 10-3 loss at Milwaukee March 7. Sibiya, a native of Pretoria, South Africa, now has 26 points on 12 goals and 14 assists this season and ranks third on the team in scoring behind Steve Butcher (44 points) and Daryl Doran (28).
Postponed Games at Monterrey Rescheduled The Major Indoor Soccer League has announced the rescheduled game dates and start times for four games originally scheduled to take place at Arena Monterrey in January and February. Those contests were postponed due to circumstances beyond the League's control. The games initially scheduled in Monterrey for January 11 and February 8, 20, and 22 have all been re-slated, with the first such game set for Wednesday, March 10. A fifth game that was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, March 19 (San Diego at Monterrey), has also been moved to Thursday, March 18. The Steamers, Dallas Sidekicks, and San Diego Sockers are all affected by the revised schedule. News 20 to televise Steamers March 17 game
The Steamers March 17, 7:35 p.m. game against the Dallas Sidekicks at The Family Arena will be televised via tape delay by News 20. The March 17 game will be broadcast by News 20 on March 18 at 7 p.m., and on March 20 at 1 p.m. News 20, North County News is owned and operated by the city of Black Jack, Mo. The channel is distributed via Charter Communication throughout St. Louis and parts of Illinois.
March 19 is SCCYSA Night
The Steamers March 19 7:35 p.m. battle against the MISL Central Division rival Kansas City Comets is SCCYSA (St. Charles County Youth Soccer Association) Night. All SCCYSA players, coaches and their families may purchase a ticket for the game and receive a second ticket of the same value free. At halftime, 10 SCCYSA teams will be recognized on the Family Arena turf.

· 50% of the proceeds from ticket sales for this game will be donated to The Backstoppers, which serves the families of police officers and firefighters in the St. Louis area who have perished in the line of duty.

· The Lions Club will be collecting used eyeglasses from fans for donation to its Lions Club Eyeglass Program.
